A walkie talkie is a portable radio transmitter that is used to communicate with other people. These radios were first developed by Al Gross in 1938, as a part of the Office of Strategic Services, the precursor to the Central Intelligence Agency. The walkie talkie was given the code name Joan/Eleanor. It has since become a popular form of communication and is now used by many law enforcement officers, firefighters, and armed services personnel. Unlike cellular phones, Walkie Talkies do not use the cellular network, so they are not compatible in remote areas.
