A walkie talkie is a portable radio transmitter that is used to communicate with other people. These radios were first developed by Al Gross in 1938, as a part of the Office of Strategic Services, the precursor to the Central Intelligence Agency. The walkie talkie was given the code name Joan/Eleanor. It has since become a popular form of communication and is now used by many law enforcement officers, firefighters, and armed services personnel.
