A Portable Alternative to a Mobile Phone

A Portable Alternative to a Mobile Phone

A two-way radio is a form of two way communication in which one side makes an audio request and the other responds. This type of communication system has been around for many years, but it wasn’t until the 1980s that businesses began using them on a widespread scale. Businesses such as radio, TV and cinema are now able to communicate with each other without having to rely on telephone lines or radio channels. In fact, with today’s latest technology these radios can be operated from cellular phones and computers.

In order to get a 2-way radio up and running, a set of instructions must be followed. This process varies depending on the model in use, but in general, several factors must be considered including frequency availability, power and channel size. For example, in a radio that has a low wattage output, more power is required to transmit than a higher wattage unit would. The same theory is used for the larger sized channel types; the signal requires a bigger radio to send a request, meaning the amount of watts used is greater. Another option is to have a separate transmitter for each frequency in use, but this is generally unnecessary unless the desired number of channels is large.

If a two-way radio is being used as a form of two way communication it can be used in a variety of ways. A hand held two-way radio can be used by placing the transmitter near the user and then holding the receiver close to the ear. Most handheld two way radios have a range of about thirty feet, which is good enough for most situations. Also, the amount of power consumed by a two-way radio depends on the frequency it is operating on and the power rating of the handheld.
