All You Wanted To Know About 2-Way Radio Transmissions
A two way radio is a two way radio which can both receive and transmit radio waves, unlike just a regular broadcast receiver which receives only received material. It is also an RF transmitter, a transmitter and receiver pair in one unit, usually used for bidirectional human-to-human voice communication. These devices are used in a wide range of applications, from the military to communications and from public safety to personal communications. Basically, these devices are used as personal Radios that are hand-held devices that receive and transmit frequencies and waves for communication purposes. Some of the common types of two-way radios are UHF/HF and VHF/HF.
One of the most common types of two-way radios is the Emergency Medical Radio or EMR. These radios help in an emergency situation by allowing people trapped inside the burning building to get a high quality communication connection. These devices have two frequency channels which are linked to a local control station through a dedicated link. These devices are very useful in case of emergency situation because they do not only provide connection to the central station but also help in getting information from there for the rescue team.
Another type of two-way device is the Mobile Radio Beacon. This kind of radio equipment helps people in locating their lost companions even when they are in remote areas where mobile communication towers are unavailable. This type of device has two frequency channels that can be connected to a computer or a laptop through a dedicated link. They have a feature that enables the user to browse through stored data and use it as a hands-free communication device.
Next type of this radio device is the Public Safety Scanner. It works on two frequency bands that are commonly used by public safety radio operators. The scanner can scan any frequencies up to 150 kilo watt hours. It may allow the user to scan any channels and find a frequency that is suitable for a particular area. This scanner will provide details about the transmission power, carrier, the subscriber type, and license type of a certain area.
There is another type of two-ways, that is known as the Automatic Identification System or AIS. It works with the use of computers that are specifically meant to process voice communication in the form of data. With the help of this equipment, the operator can receive and process information such as name, address, service status, and other relevant data of a certain person.
Some two-ways operate through a dedicated channel. There is no interference of the frequency by other channels. This makes these radios perfect for two-way communications where there is no chance of being interrupted. There are two main frequency channels, namely, 17 OHM and 120 MHZ, which are dedicated to commercial and residential markets.
