How Does Two Way Radio Equipment Communication Works?

A 2-way radio is a communication device that allows a device to communicate with a station on a spectrum that is different than the channels available for regular radio communication. The device can be used for personal communication or as a communications device for public safety and emergency situations, such as responding to emergencies. The converted signals are sent out as digital data on a number of channels, rather than on a single channel as is the case with a conventional telephone call.

There are several different types of two-way radios that can be operated and are available with various operating modes. The more popular ones include portable and trunked models. In a way, the differences in these radios reflect the difference in purposes and functions as well.

Portable two-way radios are generally smaller than trusted devices. They have fewer channels and their range is usually less. They are good for short distances and can be used in cars or other small vehicles. The advantage is that they are cheap to buy and easy to operate. They can work in areas where a dedicated telephone line is not available or applicable.
