One of the most convenient pieces of technology that has evolved is the use of the two-way radio. It is not hard to see why. Once you discover this in your driveway, you might be wondering how to tell if someone is standing in your yard talking on the radio. Here are some tips.
First, when the person you are looking for is not doing anything in the street or parking lot, ask them if they have a radio. If they don’t, then you know they either do not know what you are talking about or they have one. It is not hard to tell if someone has a radio in their car if they have one in their trunk. In that case, you should be able to get close enough to read the serial number. If the radio has been outside and there is no sun, it will light up so you can determine the radio type and model number.
If you do not want to embarrass someone by approaching them in their yard, then ask them if they have a two-way radio and you can listen to the radio conversation if they are near their home. Be careful though, as some people just do not like to be bothered by someone listening to their radios. If you approach them with this kind of mentality, they might think that you have some kind of problem. If they are a smart person, they would be very unlikely to let someone listen to their radios.
If the person is inside, and you are near their home, it is easy to tell that they are at home. However, you need to be alert as the weather can change very quickly. If you are outside and the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, it could blow your radio antenna off the roof and you may be out of range for several minutes. If you cannot hear the conversation, you can still make out the words.
If you are inside your home, but the conversation is on the other side of the home, the best option is to call the number back and ask if you can listen. Keep in mind that you will most likely be making an extra effort if you are inside because of the weather. The inside of a home is usually a warm, inviting place to be so you will be less inclined to jump through hoops. You may also want to put on a pair of gloves if you do not want your hands to get wet. Depending on the weather, you could even be needing to pull your gloves off and the weather may become very cold if the person in the house was using an indoor blanket as a shield.
If you do not want to look in the street, but want to be outside and not have to pay for the radio, then you should use your cell phone. The cellular phone could pick up the radio signal and allow you to tune in. Of course, you would have to take the time to wait for someone who has a signal to call back.
If you do not know anyone who is at home, but you want to hear the radio anyway, then you should pick up a newspaper. Some people love to read and others hate to read so they are happy to hang out with you and listen to the radio. Just be sure that you are sitting down so you don’t feel like you are being forced to listen to something that you do not want to.
The two-way radio is not hard to use once you get the hang of it. Once you get comfortable with the equipment, you may find that you really enjoy your two-way radio.
