Two Way Radio Transmissions

Two Way Radio Transmissions

A 2-way radio is a two way radio which can both receive and transmit radio signals, unlike a simple broadcast receiver which just receives data. It’s a portable transceiver, transmitter and receiver all in one unit, ideal for bidirectional personal conversation between other wireless users with similar sets of radios. With a two way radio you can easily talk with people who are on the move or who are far apart, as each station will carry a signal from a different location. Thus you can talk with people for hours without having to carry extra equipment.

One of the most common uses for 2-way radios is during an emergency situation. All radios have Emergency Stations capability, which allows them to automatically send and re-transmit received radio signals during an emergency situation. If you don’t have an Emergency Stations set-up, emergency situations may rapidly evolve into Hostile Takeovers (hetops) or Mass Attacks (Massacre). Even when you do have an Emergency Stations set-up, often times there is no way for you to receive or transmit emergency communications to help your fellow dispatchers.

Another great feature of 2-way radios is their ability to configure and personalize channels for various purposes, including Personal Identities (PIDs), State of Awareness (SAAs), Alert System Codes and Personal Alert Systems. Each channel can be configured to transmit data stream in the frequency range specified by the user. Thus there are channels for Medical Alerts, Personal Identification (PIN), and State of Awareness (SAAs). These channels can be mapped onto an analog or digital triangulation code.

The scanning features of most 2-way radios allow it to scan a range of frequencies within 100 feet of the base station. Each scan is assigned a code. Thus if you want to initiate a channel scan, all you have to do is press the appropriate number on the scan control. You can also specify which channels you wish to scan. If you are channel scanning for a Freeloader application, you will need to configure the frequency range for the application.

In addition to channel scanning, a two-way radio can be used as transceivers for RFID tagging. These devices are ideal for security and monitoring applications. A tag is a small circuit containing an embedded electronic circuit that receives and transmits RFID tags or microchips. The microchips contain unique information, which is used to track a product, person, or item with a unique ID. For example, if you want to know if a package containing drugs was delivered at your home, your house could be scanned for a tag containing the identification microchip. If your house was broken into, the owner of the property would recognize the tag and call the police, thus preventing further crime.

Two-Way radios can also be used as walkie-talkies. There are several manufacturers of such devices who market them under various brand names. You may allow up to sixteen users to simultaneously communicate in your office without any limitations. This technology makes the communication cost efficient. A single device can serve the needs of up to sixteen users. If your office has a computer network, two-ways can easily connect to computers and servers to allow connection to the internet and other networked devices.
